Eyelid surgery

Face the world with confidence

The eyes communicate our deepest emotions, from joy and excitement to anguish and sorrow. They also convey the fact that we may be aging, as sagging skin, wrinkles and heavy under-eye bags slowly mar a once youthful appearance. Fortunately, these imperfections can be easily reversed through the miracle of blepharoplasty, more commonly known as eyelid surgery. This widely popular procedure corrects skin laxity, reduces fat deposits and puffiness around the eyes, and can even help improve impaired vision.

In the hands of a talented cosmetic surgeon, Manhattan eyelid surgery clients can expect a complete transformation of the entire face, with renewed vitality and increased natural beauty. Furthermore, patients that have elected to undergo a browlift, facelift or skin resurfacing will find that blepharoplasty is the perfect complement to these age-defying procedures.

Why should clients choose

As a double board-certified plastic surgeon specializing exclusively in the head and neck regions of the body, Dr. Kwak has elevated NYC blepharoplasty to what some truly consider an art form.

During the initial consultation, he employs a complex comprehensive analysis of each client’s eyes and face, creating a highly customized roadmap towards a successful, age-reversing outcome. The consultation is the perfect time to share with the doctor all your concerns and wishes for your procedure so that he may adjust accordingly. Assessing your medical history is also part of the in-depth consultation process. Be advised that Dr. Kwak may refer you to an eye doctor prior to cosmetic surgery if you suffer from any serious eye conditions. He strives to provide the utmost attention to our clients coming in for eyelid surgery in NYC.

Get Started

The Blepharoplasty technique

Eyelid surgery is generally performed under local anesthesia with sedation, or under general anesthesia. The entire procedure takes no more than 2 hours.

Upper lids

During upper lid surgery, a minute, inconspicuous incision is made in the eyelid crease through which excess fat and skin folds may be eliminated. Eyelid muscles may also be tightened, combatting droopiness. This is also the method that is used when performing eyelid surgery to address vision loss related to sagging lids that droop over the lashes. In addition to vision correction, upper eyelid surgery patients can enjoy a more alert, rejuvenated appearance that does wonders for self-confidence.

Lower lids

The lower lids are most often the site of unwanted fat deposits. These can be removed through mostly invisible incisions made just inside the lower lid, which then heal naturally after the sutures are removed. In cases of excess bagginess and lower lid sagging, incisions may be made beneath the lower lashes, but these are still largely undetectable. The result is a smoother, tighter and more attractive appearance around the eyes, projecting youthfulness and a relaxed, well-rested countenance.

Recovery from blepharoplasty

Our Manhattan Blepharoplasty patients can expect a speedy and pleasant recovery, thanks to Dr. Kwak’s precise, superior surgical methods. Minor bruising and swelling may persist for up to two weeks, but these are generally short-lived. Dr. Kwak may prescribe ointments or drops to assist with the healing process, and a cold compress may periodically be placed across the eye area. Patients should avoid wearing contact lenses for up to two weeks, and eye makeup can be resumed within the same time frame. Sutures may be removed within one week after surgery, and clients can expect a return to exercise and normal activity within around 10 days. As always, Dr. Kwak and his caring, expertly trained staff will be on hand throughout the recovery process to address any concerns you may have and to assist you should you encounter any discomfort. You can trust Dr. Kwak and his staff offer among the best care during & post eyelid surgery New York has to offer.
