A unique feature to the Asian eyelid is the epicanthal fold, this is the fold over the most central portion of the upper eyelid.  There are several variations of this fold.  An epicanthoplasty is a procedure done usually during double-eyelid surgery to change the orientation of this fold.  By doing so, the over all length of the eye is increased, creating an appearance of a more open eye.

Your consultation
During your consultation with Dr. Kwak, feel free to openly discuss any concerns or questions you may have about Asian eyelid surgery.  After a thorough evaulation, Dr. Kwak will discuss with you if you would benefit from an epicanthoplasty.  This procedure is usually done in conjunction with a double eyelid surgery.

The surgery
An epicanthoplasty is usally performed simultaneously with a double-eyelid procedure.  These procedures are performed under local anesthesia.    Sutures are removed in 5-7 days after surgery.  After the procedure, the amount of swelling can vary, but most swelling last for about 7-10 days.
