After a point, we can no longer avoid the cropping up of those pesky wrinkles. You want to look more youthful and less tired but you're apprehensive about surgery. Well, you now have another effective option! Ultherapy is a non-invasive, non-surgical ultrasound procedure to take care of those wrinkles and that droopiness.
Its a quick 30-60 minute treatment for your face and neck and is essentially a lunchtime procedure. Its fast, efficient and highly effective.
The procedure is as follows: A smooth applicator that's carefully placed on your skin produces an onscreen image that helps Dr. Kwak quantitatively understand where the energy needs to be directed and at which tissue areas. Its then used to project low levels of focused heat below the skin, leaving the surface undisturbed. The skin's response stimulates the effective growth of new collagen. Gradual tightening and firming is clearly visible, eventually leading to a natural lift in skin.
The fact that Ultherapy treats not only treats the skin but also targets and deals with the underlying foundational support tissues in precise and highly accurate manner, ensures satisfying and long term results.
As usual, we want to provide you with all the possible resources you might need to research and make an informed decision. Make sure to download an Ultherapy patient guide, watch Ultherapy videos and read about what to expect after the procedure. Cosmetic surgery has reached new heights in popularity this year. Cosmetic surgery is one of this year’s hottest holiday gifts. The desire to look good is universal. An ever-growing number of both women and men are turning to Manhattan facial plastic surgery to maintain an attractive appearance. An ever-growing number of people are making Manhattan facial plastic surgery a regular part of their normal beauty routine.
People used to wait until wrinkles and sagging skin became intolerable before visiting a Manhattan facial plastic surgeon. Today, New York men and women are taking a proactive approach to maintaining their appearance. Instead of waiting for fine lines to deepen into wrinkles and skin to start drooping, they are scheduling Ultherapy, Botox and New York City plastic surgery procedures as soon as they see the first indication that skin is breaking down.
Yet, despite the wide acceptance of facial plastic surgery as a beauty tool, there are still some people who are uncomfortable about using surgery to improve their appearance. These women and men seek a kinder, gentler approach to cosmetic surgery. Many say they have found what they’re looking for in Ultherapy.
Ultherapy is an amazing “non-surgical facelift” now available at ESK Facial Plastic Surgery in New York City. The kinder, gentler approach to facial plastic surgery that many people have been looking for, Ultherapy achieves its amazing results by targeting loose and drooping facial skin and with gentle ultrasound energy. The application of targeted energy triggers the body’s natural regenerative response, stimulating the growth of new collagen and restoring memory to skin and underlying support tissues. The result is beautiful, firmer, more youthful skin without surgery.
Many people have the mistaken perception that facial plastic surgery means “going under the knife”! They incorrectly believe that the only way to get rid of wrinkles and rejuvenate loose, droopy skin is with a nip here and a tuck there. What many people do not realize is that expert Manhattan facial plastic surgeons like Dr. Kwak now provide a number of excellent, non-invasive, non-surgical cosmetic procedures that offer cosmetic surgery patients a gentler, less-invasive solution for improving their appearance.
The skin-rejuvenating cosmetic procedure Ultherapy and injectables such as Botox and Juvaderm provide Manhattan cosmetic surgery patients with a greater range of appearance-enhancing options than ever before. Most people are familiar with the wrinkle-reducing, skin-plumping properties of Botox and other skin fillers; but few are familiar with Ultherapy. A new non-surgical treatment for the face and neck, Ultherapy uses state-of-the-art ultrasound technology to gently stimulate collagen growth and gradually tighten and firm the skin. The result is a dramatically younger-looking appearance.
Patients agree that Ultherapy shaves years off their appearance with lasting results and no downtime. Some people experience a mild flushing that disappears within a few hours of treatment. In most patients the flushing is no more noticeable than the healthy glow you get from a brisk walk.

“An old tree might look great. Old women don’t,” Geri Brin recently told Wall Street Journal online columnist Anne Kadet. Founder of FabOverFifty.com, Brin doesn’t believe women have to give in to age and gravity. When your body starts to wrinkle and sag, Brin says it’s time to fight back! The organizer of the FabOverFifty Beauty Bash event for women of a certain age, told participants earlier this month, “We’re not a complacent generation that accepts wrinkles, circles, sags and spots lying down.”
The special beauty event showcased the many options now available to help women still the hand of time and maintain an attractive appearance.
A wide variety of cosmetic treatments were on display at the well-attended Manhattan event from popular cosmetic surgery procedures to the latest infomercial products. Although Brin admitted, “I’d rather spend the money and have a plastic surgeon,” she said her goal in staging the FabOverFifty beauty event was to provide women with cosmetic options in a wide range of prices. Event attendees were able to watch demonstrations of several popular non-invasive cosmetic procedures used to banish wrinkles, such as Botox, Dysport, Juvederm and Radiesse.
Manhattan facial plastic surgeon Dr. Edward Kwak was on hand to demonstrate the effectiveness of Ultherapy, the new non-surgical face and neck treatment that eliminates wrinkles and firms skin.
Ultherapy requires no surgery. This new non-invasive cosmetic procedure uses ultrasound to counteract the effects time and gravity have on your skin. Ulthera is a revolutionary non-surgical ultrasound treatment that rolls back the clock, giving your face a younger, fresher appearance. Ultrasound treatments tighten both the surface layer of facial skin and rejuvenate the skin’s deep foundation layer that provides the critical underlying support necessary to keep skin smooth and young-looking. Ulthera treatments of the face and neck typically last 30 to 60 minutes during which time ultrasound therapy gently and gradually restores skin and tissue memory, alleviating the sagging skin and wrinkles that appear as we age – without surgery. (Click here to watch videos about how Ulthera works.) In just a few months, this gravity-defying skin treatment rejuvenates the skin on your face and neck, reducing and eliminating wrinkles and shaving years off your appearance. While every patient is different, most New York cosmetic surgery patients experience only mild discomfort during their Ultherapy sessions. Before beginning treatments, Dr. Kwak will carefully explain the Ulthera procedure to you, answer your questions and discuss options for making the procedure as comfortable as possible. Ultherapy patients experience no downtime and can return to their regular activities immediately with no restrictions. Some patients experience mild, temporary flushing in the treated area; but reactions are typically mild and of short duration.

Women may still outnumber men in the waiting rooms of Manhattan facial plastic surgeons by 8 to 1, but men are gaining ground. Last year, male plastic surgery procedures accounted for 8% of the 1.6 million cosmetic surgery procedures performed in the U.S., according to statistics compiled by the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS). Eight percent may not seem like much, but the number of male cosmetic surgery procedures has grown 88% since 1997 when the ASAPS began keeping records and a significant part of the growth has come in recent years. In 2010, men underwent 750,074 cosmetic surgery procedures compared to women’s 8.5 million.
According to ASAPS statistics, the 10 most popular New York cosmetic surgery procedures for men are:
- 1. Liposuction (lipoplasty)
- 2. Nose reshaping (rhinoplasty)
- 3. Cosmetic eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty)
- 4. Male breast reduction (gynecomastia)
- 5. Cosmetic ear surgery (otoplasty)
- 6. Facelift
- 7. Tummy tuck (abdominoplasty)
- 8. Fat grafting (autologous fat)
- 9. Forehead lift
- 10. Chin augmentation
Cutthroat workplace competition and longevity appear to be the primary forces driving the male facial plastic surgery market. The recent economic downturn and resultant layoffs mean more workers vying for fewer jobs, allowing hiring officers to be more selective in filling job openings. Increased longevity is also impacting job competition. According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control (CDC), the average life expectancy for U.S. men is 75 and many are living much longer. The number of centenarians in the U.S. could reach half a million by 2020, according to U.S. Census Bureau predictions. Men want to stay on the job longer and are pushing back retirement into their 70s, putting them in competition with much younger peers for jobs and promotions.
Looking young has never been so important for men - and NY facial plastic surgery and non-surgical procedures like Ulthera - can give them the competitive edge they need to succeed.
In 1997, 2 million cosmetic surgery procedures were performed. By last year that number had increased to more than 9 million, an astonishing jump of 155% in just 13 years, according to 2010 statistics released by the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS).
While male cosmetic surgeries have increased 88% since 1997 when the ASAPS began keeping records, women continue to be the driving force behind the burgeoning New York facial plastic surgery market. Last year, women accounted for 92% of the cosmetic surgery market, undergoing 8.5 million procedures.
According to ASAPS statistics, the 10 most popular New York cosmetic surgery procedures for women are:
- 1. Breast augmentation
- 2. Lipoplasty (liposuction)
- 3. Breast reduction
- 4. Tummy tuck (abdominoplasty)
- 5. Eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty)
- 6. Breast lift
- 7. Facelift
- 8. Nose reshaping (rhinoplasty)
- 9. Autologous fat (fat grafting)
- 10. Forehead lift
While the improving economy spurred an across-the-board increase in the number of surgical cosmetic procedures performed in 2010 compared to 2009, NY nonsurgical cosmetic procedures proved to be nearly 4 times more popular than surgical procedures last year. Botox and other skin filler procedures rocketed to popularity when the recession forced many women to put off more costly surgical procedures. Botox provided an acceptable “quick fix;” but now that the economy is improving, women are scheduling delayed facelifts, eyelid surgery and forehead lifts with board-certified Manhattan facial plastic surgeons.
According to ASAPS statistics, last year women underwent 5.7 nonsurgical cosmetic procedures -- 3.6 injectable procedures and 2.1 skin rejuvenation treatments -- compared to a total of 1.4 million surgical procedures. The most popular wrinkle-eliminating injectable continues to be Botox, which outperformed other injectable fillers by 2 to 1 in 2010. Hyaluronic acid fillers, such as Restylane, were the next most popular class of injectable fillers. Nonsurgical skin rejuvenation treatments such as Ultherapy were also popular with New York women.
If you’re on the far side of your 40th birthday, you probably remember when people used to practice face-contorting isometric exercises and pat themselves under the chin in vain attempts to stave off the wrinkles and sagging skin of old age. These early attempts at non-surgical cosmetic treatment may have made us feel good but they failed to stop the march of time. At that time, a facelift was the only way to smooth facial wrinkles and pull the slack from sagging skin.
The introduction of Botox and other skin fillers launched a new era in facial plastic surgery. For the first time, New York facial plastic surgeons were able to offer their patients viable non-surgical cosmetic treatments to rejuvenate aging skin that produced excellent, dependable results. Affordability, negligent healing time and immediate results have made non-surgical facial cosmetic surgery treatments wildly popular. According to the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, last year facial plastic surgeons performed nearly 8 million minimally invasive cosmetic procedures. A significant 83% of those cosmetic procedures were non-surgical.
Patient demand for non-surgical cosmetic treatments has led to the development of new technology and new cosmetic procedures that expand the New York facial plastic surgeon’s repertoire beyond Botox and other injectables. Ultherapy is one of the most effective of the new cutting-edge, non-surgical facial cosmetic treatments. Now available from ESK Facial Plastic Surgery, Ultherapy is a unique ultrasound procedure for the treatment of facial wrinkles and sagging facial skin. Using targeted ultrasound waves, Ultherapy stimulates the body’s production of collagen. Tightening and toning the face and neck, Ultherapy rejuvenates the appearance and texture of facial skin without surgery.
Not that long ago, Manhattan facial plastic surgeons were limited to a single procedure – a full facelift – to remove unsightly wrinkles and sags from age-ravaged skin. The expense and recovery time required for those old-school facelifts made them an unrealistic option for many women and men. The more recent development of targeted facial plastic surgery procedures that are intended to repair or rejuvenate a specific problem or facial area has made facial plastic surgery far more affordable and available to a much broader section of the population. The introduction of new technology and less intrusive facial plastic surgery techniques have improved patient recovery times which increasing patient satisfaction with surgery results. According to the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, the result has been a 35% increase in the number of facelifts performed in the U.S. between 2009 and 2010.
Today, New York cosmetic surgeons are able to offer patients a myriad of facial cosmetic surgery options to choose from, including a browlift, forehead lift, necklift, eyelid surgery, chin surgery, cheek surgery and lip enhancement. Each surgical option targets a very specific facial problem, allowing patients to address a single appearance if they prefer not to undergo a full facelift. An experienced Manhattan facial plastic surgeon like Dr. Edward Kwak can also develop a staged treatment plan that allows cosmetic surgery patients to accomplish their appearance goals over time for better cost and time control.
Cutting-edge developments in non-surgical facial treatments now offer NY cosmetic surgery patients viable non-surgical solutions for combating wrinkles and sagging skin that produce excellent results. Joining Botox and other popular skin fillers, Dr. Kwak now offers the latest non-surgical cosmetic treatment, Ultherapy, a state-of-the-art ultrasound treatment for rejuvenating aging skin.
Have you ever looked in the mirror when no one was looking and given your neck line a little lift or brow a little pull? Wish it would stay that way? Have you ever considered getting a procedure to address those problem areas but were to worried about the recovery time?
If you answered yes to these questions, I would encourage you to come learn more about a new device we are pleased to offer in our New York facial plastic surgery practice, called Ulthera. Ulthera is a non-invasive treatment device that tones facial muscles, tightening and lifting the overlying facial skin. Problem areas such as facial and neck jowls, droopy eyes and eyebrows now can all be addressed with minimal to no downtime.
This device works by using ultrasound technology to pinpoint focal thermal energy to the underlying facial muscles. As the energy is delivered to the facial muscle, the muscle is tightened causing a lifting effect to the overlying facial skin. Ulthera is currently the only device FDA approved for cosmetic facial lifting.
Ulthera treatments occur in the comfort of our office here in New York. Isolated problem regions (i.e. face, neck, brow) can be performed alone or in combination. Full face treatments typically take about one hour and does not require general anesthesia. Most patients require only one treatment session. Final results usually takes 2-3 months but patients frequently notice improvements immediately after the treatment.
This device can also be used as a preventative treatment for early signs of facial aging or it can be used to maintain your current look. We would be happy to discuss if Ulthera is right for you at your next consultation.
